SHELTER FOR ROMAN RUINS

Technical University of Eindhoven, The Netherlands
Course Production & Parts, Making a 1:1 scale model, 2012

For the course ‘Production & Parts’ I made a real detail model scale 1:1. Important was that the model clearly shows the buildings’ materiality and mood. Together with Lieselotte de Vrught I’ve chosen to rebuild a part of ‘Shelter for Roman Ruins’. This building, designed by Peter Zumthor, is situated in Chur, Switzerland. His way of using materials and the spatial quality in his designs fascinates me. He uses materials in a very pure way, the simplicity in his buildings makes them powerful and we tried to show these aspects in our 1:1 detail.
