AQUARIUM PAVILION

Private project, Silvolde, The Netherlands
Cold water aquarium pavilion, 2012

Next to eldery center De Schuylenburgh in Silvolde you can find an animal park. The plan is to enrich the place with a cold water aquarium, a calming space to take a break.

The building shape makes you think of a seashell, which forms a protecting shelter for the fish but also for the visitors of the cold water aquarium. The façade of the outside half round cylinder is covered with Corten steel. This material refers to the Ring of European Cities of Iron Works, where Silvolde is connected to. Corten steel also refers to the bicycle route from Doesburg to Bocholt, located next to the cold water aquarium. On this route you can find a lot of iron art.
